Part, Whole Math Outside

Acorn class does math outside!

This week to aid Acorn class' math lessons they have been doing some work outside on 'Part, Whole Math', a technique they have been learning about breaking down numbers, and number bonds to 5. 

The class went outside to use some hula hoops and cubes to demonstrate the learning. During their lesson they learnt that no matter how they looked at the diagram it wouldn’t change. The numbers in the red hoops would always add up to the number in the yellow hoop!

This type of learning allowed the children to apply problem solving in a visual way, helped them to understand their knowledge as well as encouraged looking at differences, similarities, patterns and change.
